In my last post I threatened to post up a video of me playing I Giorni (The Days) by Ludovico Einaudi. It would have been nice to post one error free, but the couple of times I recorded it I made a few mistakes, rather than spend an age re-recording I have posted the best edited version up.
I hope you like the piece as much as I do, and that you forgive me the little slips.

felicitations, you must be a very prudent person, mmm, in my opinion, you could do more dynamics, you know what, you have to “exaggerate” more in order for the dynamics to be heard (haha), I enjoy it …. thanks for sharing.

Yes listening back to it I realized I had very few dynamics. I think I get so nervous with the camera there that the performance side of it gets lost. Will add more dynamics to the next piece I add. Thanks for listening 🙂

Nice work piano learner!
1. Did you listen to the recording, and compare that to how it sounded when you were playing? Sometimes, I am surprised by how a recording sounds compared to how I thought it sounded.
2. How are you pedaling? I can see your leg moving up and down….is there a way to keep your heel on the ground the entire time? I’ve played pianos where the pedals are so far off the ground that the only way to pedal is by moving your leg up and down.
The proper way to pedal should be to plant your heel on the ground, and just move the top half of your foot up and down 🙂

Thanks. I think it sounded fairly similar to how I thought it did when I played it. Although I get nervous in front of a camera, so I make more mistakes, and all my dynamics go out of the window.
As for pedaling. Yes more often that not, I lift the whole foot. My piano teacher picks me up on it all the time and I still haven’t fixed it. Perhaps I’m sat too close to the piano…

Lol and now I’m picking on you too!
Yes definitely try sitting back a little more. You should be sitting in the middle of the piano bench (not hanging off the end) and when you extend your arm, your fist should reach the piano fall board.

Thanks. I really appreciate the advice from an expert. 🙂 Have moved the stool back a little.

Thank you! Mr. H. and I sat down to dinner listening to this and it was so lovely!

That’s very kind of you. 🙂

🙂 We really enjoyed it! And Mr. H. said it was really nice and why don’t I play something like that please, hehe.

Bravo! I enjoyed that. I did piano till I was about 16. In my practical exam my left hand played the left hand piece perfectly and my right hand did its bit too, but I was so nervous my one hand was playing about three bars ahead of the other. I just couldnt get them into sync. it was awful. I retired in disgrace and humiliation. You, on the other hand, can hold your head up high. Encore!

Thanks. Although it’s never too late to pick it up again…. 🙂

Wow, this is SO BEAUTIFUL. So expressive, beautiful song. I can’t believe how long it is, too! You are fantastic! You must be a pretty good sight reader, too? At least, better than me, haha. Even your errors sound good haha.

That’s, very kind. Its a favourite of mine. I felt I needed to add more dynamics, which I have tried to do on my next one (to be posted soon).

Can’t wait to hear it!! I commend you for keeping at the piano for so long, and so persistently~

You did very well, pianolearner! I had your video playing as background music — so relaxing and yet thoughtful at the same time.
pianolearner said:
Thank you. That really means a lot to me. 🙂

Bravissimo! You’re much too hard on yourself. You played beautifully and should be quite proud. What an accomplishment! Such a lovely piece you chose to play and share with us. Merci!

This is really awesome! I really hope I can learn to play this one day. Sounded great!

Thank you. When you learn it send me the link I’d love to hear it 🙂

Bravo! I really enjoyed it, you did a great job though it’s not as fast as the original 🙂 I like how you make it sound so smooth and calm. I feel that this piece is difficult in terms of dynamics and injecting feeling and emotion behind the notes. It’s not that a difficult piece in terms of level.
I’m currently learning this and it’s hard for me because my right hand can’t reach an octave. And my playing does not sound as smooth as yours, it sounds the complete opposite. More practice for me!

Thank you.

I love all of his songs! Ludovico Einaudi definitely is one of my inspirations for when I write my songs. And I think you did a really good job playing too. It just takes a lot of practice, and I know that whenever I record myself playing, it’s never as good as when the camera’s not there, so great job! I think all of us musicians are just naturally kind of camera-shy.
pianolearner said:
Thank you. I listened to your songs and really like them. have you ever thought about posting up the sheet music?
ldellavella said:
Thanks! Glad you liked the songs. I’ve thought about putting together sheet music, but as of now none of my song are actually written down. I play by ear and everything’s just in my head. I really don’t read piano well at all and would have a really difficult time writing things down.

is the song difficult
pianolearner said:
It depends on your current skill level. It was one of the first ones of his that I learnt, so is easier than some of his other ones. I would say a good one to start with if you are only just starting out with piano is a piece called ‘limbo’.
